Today I received this wonderful gift - a friendship bread starter. It’s a lovely Amish tradition where you feed the starter for 10 days and then break it up into 4 pieces, keeping one for yourself to bake with, and giving away 3 of them to friends to pass on the tradition and keep the starter going. Soon it will be my turn to do some cooking!
It may not look glamorous now - but it will be transformed into some very tasty baked goods soon. Updates to follow…
Baby Arugula Salad with Cucumber, Turkey Pastrami, Feta Cheese, and Pistachios with a Balsamic Vinaigrette - Yum! Topped with tiny orange tomatoes fresh from the farmer’s market.
Breakfast Quesadilla with Smoked Fontina, Goat Cheese, & Egg. Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar and Mint on the side - soooo delicious! The Cinnamon Rolls were my doing, but I must pass the credit to Trader Joe’s for those.
Homemade pizza topped with roasted red pepper, zucchini, and mozzarella cheese over a light tomato sauce, then brushed with truffle oil. Romaine salad with toasted pine nuts, radishes, green onion, pecorino romano, and a light vinaigrette. YUM!
A hot mess of a dessert: vanilla bean ice cream and a whole grain biscuit doused in hot homemade raspberry/blackberry/lemon sauce. Flavor explosions!!!
Beer can chicken with seared asparagus wrapped in bacon, and a spring greens salad with a light balsamic vinaigrette. So good! More vegetables should be wrapped in bacon.
Marinated garlic peppercorn pork tenderloin, tat soi with pancetta and garlic, grilled onions, and jasmine white rice with parsley. This was such a delicious dinner; everything complemented everything else! It was also the first time we’ve had tat soi - we got it at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market and now every time we go there I look for it.
Yes, I say these words together often enough that I feel it could use a shorthand. Not to be confused with “grunion”, which happens to be a fish.
Toasted Focaccia with crispy bacon, grilled green onions, and eggs. I went with the scrambled version, but his plate was more photogenic so that’s what I’m posting.
Thin spaghetti with pancetta, chicken sausage, mushrooms, lemon, and parmigiano-reggiano sprinkled on top. Made with ‘Barilla Plus’ pasta which is amazingly tasty and much healthier than regular pasta. The salad has mixed greens, cucumber, carrots, toasted pine nuts, and green onion, with a light vinaigrette. Loved this dinner!!!
We bought the pumpkin cheesecake. But MY MAN made the amazing dark chocolate with cinnamon and French Vanilla Kahlua topping. The combination is FANTASTIC!!!!
Homemade pizza with fresh mozzarella, artichoke hearts, pancetta, onion, and truffle oil brushed on top. Yum! Truffle oils is truly awesome stuff - it smells sooo good, and a little goes a long way.
For real. It’s pretty entertaining.
Raspberry Vodka Mojitos - with fresh red and yellow raspberries. The star-shaped ice cubes were my contribution.
Panko-crusted Snapper, Potato Pancakes, and oven-roasted Cauliflower with Kalamata Vinaigrette. Never would have guessed that cauliflower and olives go so well together, but they sooo do!
